Amstel Gold Race
The Amstel Gold Race marks the start of the three Ardennes Classics, a wave of one-day racing that takes things off the pave and onto the climbs. What distinguishes Amstel Gold from the others are its narrow, twisting roads, and the road furniture that keep riders fighting for their position throughout the entire race.
The 258 km route begins in Maastricht and ends in
Valkenberg, and demands the riders face the infamous Cauberg
three times. With such a fearsomely steep climb at the race finish, one thing is guaranteed: The winner won't be a sprinter. Rebellin, Di Luca, Schleck, Schumacher, and Cunego are the past five victors, so this year's winner should be joining good company.
